How Have I Got Here?

After several months of experimenting with different Graphics projects, I am now at a place where I can look back, comment and reflect on some of my work and my process. Of the six projects tackled, two engaged me at a higher level than the rest - TYPE + CHANGE IT NOW.
Working with TYPE was new for me and my initial knowledge of typography was limited. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring type from a purely aesthetic point of view and then going on to understand about the psychological impact that TYPE can have on viewers. Although obvious to me now, perhaps what wasn't clear to me initially was the impact a font can have on a viewer and how it can communicate information and emotion before the text is even read. For example - Comic Sans, a "fun" and young font, created for cartoons, should not be used on a sign for an HIV Testing centre...
Personally I enjoy the commercial element to graphic design, I like the aspect of working to a brief and that the work you're creating is serving a purpose beyond an emotional or personal outlet. The CHANGE IT NOW project allowed me to think beyond "how do I make things look visually pleasing" and made me think "how do I make people listen". I enjoyed working with moving image a lot and the engaging element of a film is a useful tool when conveying information.
